The historic Bethanien church is
located at Mirbachplatz in Berlin-
Weißensee. It had been
constructed according to plans by
Ludwig von Tiedemann and Robert
Leibnitz in the years 1900-1902.
The shape of the neo-gothic style
building is designed like a crosswise
building In the west of the building,
a 65 meter high tower flags the
building as a landmark of Berlin.
The basement is made of lime sand
and the tower itself supporting
three bells is made of brick stones.
The German Emperor Wilhelm II
and his wife Auguste Viktoria
inaugurated the tower on 26th of
October, 1902. One of the bells was
named in honor of the Empress
Auguste Viktoria.

The central site and the neighboring
parish hall were used for social
activities transforming the
Bethanien church into a social
centre for many years.
In February 1945 during one of the
final air strikes of the Second World
War, the church was hit by a
bomb and the nave was completely
destroyed. Although the tower
remained intact after the bombing,
the belfry could not be used.
Meanwhile, the remains of the
building were declared as a historic
monument. In order to revive the
decaying ruin, the church
community Weißensee sold the
church to Bernd Bötzel in January
2008. The revitalisation and
rehabilitation of the Bethanien
Tower are supported by the church
community as long as their
religious belief respected.
